The Hiller Logistik GmbH, a logistics service provider from Lüneburg, has commissioned Jungheinrich with the automation of a new narrow-aisle warehouse. With the project, the company faces multiple challenges: stringent fire protection regulations, increased safety requirements, and the aim to sustainably increase the efficiency of warehousing processes, said Jungheinrich in a press release dated October 30.
The logistical backbone of the facility consists of four automated narrow-aisle stackers of the type “EKX 516a”, which handle inbound and outbound storage in ten aisles. With an aisle length of 67 meters
each and a height of 12.9 meters, a high storage density is achieved on a comparatively compact footprint. A combined energy system consisting of automatic PzS battery charging and power rails is intended to ensure continuous operation five days a week with 16 hours of operation each.
The warehouse is designed for various load carrier types – from Euro and industrial pallets to CP pallets and boxes. The connection to the storage system is via conveying technology with integrated contour inspection stations as well as a transfer system using
a transfer car.
Jungheinrich delivers the complete automation solution as the general contractor: In addition to the four Mobile Robots “EKX 516a”, the scope of delivery includes the racking system, conveying technology with contour inspection stations, the Warehouse Control System (WCS) and the process visualization (PMI). The holistic approach is intended to ensure the best possible coordination of system components.
“For us, it was essential to have a partner who not only delivers technology but also provides comprehensive guidance and accompanies the entire process. With Jungheinrich we have found
the best solution for our specific requirements,” said Rafael Pappert, Managing Director of Hiller Logistik GmbH.
“With a storage height of 12.9 meters, we create a very high storage density for Hiller on a small footprint. Coupled with the high availability and performance of our EKX 516a Mobile Robots, this results in a particularly powerful solution for the new narrow-aisle warehouse,” added Felix Salm, Senior Project Manager Mobile Robots at Jungheinrich.
The new warehouse will be connected to the customer's existing system via the Jungheinrich WCS. Commissioning is planned
