As part of the expansion of production and logistics facilities in Aurich, Nord Electronic Drivesystems, a company of the Nord Group, has commissioned Knapp to implement a highly automated logistics solution. The centerpiece is the warehouse robotics system "AeroBot", which handles the storage of electronic components for frequency inverters and supports production supply in printed circuit board assembly and final assembly, according to a statement by the solution provider dated September 16.
The new storage system comprises in its final configuration 29 storage levels for quadruple-deep storage and 25,500 storage locations. In addition, six pick stations and two inbound goods workstations
will be connected to the storage system via conveyor technology. The control of the new facility is carried out via Knapp's KiSoft One logistics software with an interface to Nord's SAP EWM system.
The flexibly scalable AeroBot system, an intelligent system design for robot-assisted compact storage, was at the LogiMAT trade fair in March awarded as "Best Product 2025" in the category "Picking, Conveying, Lifting, Warehousing Technology." The AeroBots, according to an independent jury, formed a new generation of warehouse robots that complement the technology company's offerings in automated warehousing systems, according to a press release from the LogiMAT organizer EUROEXPO
Messe- und Kongress-GmbH. An innovative feature of the autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) is the "Friction Drive" technology. Supported by modern LiDAR technology, the robots can move in three dimensions. The new development thus, according to EUROEXPO's press release, particularly meets the current market requirements for high flexibility and scalability in warehouse design.
The logistics solution at Nord Electronic Drivesystems is modular in construction and designed to be expanded in further expansion steps with the autonomous mobile robots named "Open Shuttles". Similarly, fire protection doors were integrated into all storage and retrieval routes in the solution, as the storage system will be
located in an oxygen-reduced environment. With the expansion of production and logistics spaces from 7,500 square meters to 20,000 square meters and the automation solution, Nord doubles its production capacity to 400,000 frequency inverters per year in the final expansion.
As a supplier, Nord has been equipping Knapp's warehouse systems with drive technology for years. At the Bargteheide site, Nord has been using a dynamic shuttle storage system from Knapp since 2021. The solution provider is thus both customer and supplier – an example of close, reciprocal collaboration. With the new project in Aurich, the two technology companies are expanding their
