The supplier of stone wool and insulation materials, Rockwool, with a production site in Neuburg, has commissioned Swisslog to implement a fully automated high-bay warehouse. This is intended to push forward the modernization of its logistics to make manual processes more sustainable, Swisslog said in a press release dated September 4.
Rockwool is currently growing with more than 51 production sites in 40 countries and more than 12,200 employees. At the continuously operating site in Neuburg, an automated high-performance solution was
required to efficiently support the new production line. The integrated Swisslog solution is now expected to bring the necessary efficiency, flexibility and reliability for Rockwool's growing requirements.
Swisslog will implement a fully integrated logistics solution including a high-bay warehouse with 35,000 pallet positions and a total capacity of 53,000 EUR pallets. Eight double-deep stacker cranes "Vectura S40" and a fully automated pallet conveying system "ProMove" will be deployed, which will be integrated into the existing picking and packaging area.
The project
scope also includes structural measures above the floor slab, roof and façade cladding, the technical building equipment, such as power supply, climate and lighting systems as well as fire protection systems. The entire operation will in the future be controlled by the warehouse management software 'SynQ', which is intended to ensure seamless coordination and full real-time transparency.
The new automated warehouse makes external storage space unnecessary, minimizes manual interventions, and enables touch-free management of production pallets. In addition, it shortens truck-loading
times, increases delivery quality and significantly reduces dependence on forklifts.
