With a strategically important step, Daimler Truck expands its presence on the Japanese commercial vehicle market. Effective immediately, the heavy-duty trucks of the Mercedes-Benz Arocs and Actros ranges are also available in Japan. Distribution is carried out through the long-standing partner Y-Engineering, which has been importing the Unimog and Econic models for two decades and operates a nationwide service network, the company said.

Market introduction at the Japan Mobility Show

The flagship of the range, the Arocs 4763 8x6, will be officially unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show (JMS) in Tokyo from October 29 to November 9, 2025. The model will be presented there in the colors of the Japanese flag—a symbolic market launch. Daimler Truck

sees substantial potential in Japan for the highly specialized vehicles, which are particularly used in transporting especially large and heavy loads—from wind turbines to generators and transformers to heat exchangers for infrastructure projects.

Technical features and market adaptations

The Arocs 4763 8x6 is equipped with the OM 473: 15.6-liter displacement, 625 PS and 3,000 Nm of torque. In combination with the 16-speed Powershift 3 Advanced transmission and a specially developed fifth-wheel coupling, the vehicle can move towing loads up to 500 tonnes.

Particular attention was paid to adapting to Japanese regulations. Because Japan imposes a maximum vehicle height of 3.8 meters, Mercedes-Benz Trucks for the first time developed a combination of the ClassicSpace 2.3 cabin and

a compact cooling tower on a four-axle chassis. This allows the machine, despite its low height, to provide the additional cooling required for heavy-duty transports.

Also with regard to safety, the models set new standards: the Active Brake Assist 6, the Lane Keeping Assist ASGA2, an Attention Assist, and the Front Guard Assist are part of the standard equipment.

Production and Upfitting

The vehicles intended for Japan are produced in serial production at the Wörth plant and subsequently converted at the Molsheim plant in the "Custom Tailored Trucks (CTT)" area. There, the trucks receive, among other things, the fourth axle, the additional cooling tower, and the heavy-duty coupling.

Sales and service through Y-Engineering

With Y-Engineering, Daimler

Truck relies on an experienced importer. The company, based in Yokohama, operates five own branches and taps into a network of more than 100 service partners. For Japanese freight forwarders, this means comprehensive after-sales support—a key factor for vehicles that are regularly operated at the limits of load capacity.

Significance for the Japanese market

Demand for heavy-duty transport is growing in Japan. Above all, the expansion of renewable energy, new infrastructure projects, and the replacement of old industrial plants require transport capacities for oversized components. Stina Fagerman, Head of Marketing, Sales and Services at Mercedes-Benz Trucks, speaks of a "real milestone for the Japanese transport industry." Even before the official introduction, existing customers had signaled a
