The Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility has, according to its own statements, conducted further nationwide priority inspections in commercial goods transport in September 2025. The aim of the measures was to check compliance with cabotage regulations, the rules on regular weekly rest periods, as well as in the area of technical roadside inspections.
The inspections took place on three dates, namely on 8 and 9, on 17 and 18, and on 25 and 26 September. In total, the authority established 101 inspection sites where 325 control officers from
the traffic control service were deployed. In addition, technical experts were involved in the inspection of the vehicles.
Selection of control locations by traffic volume
In determining the locations, BALM, according to its own statements, paid particular attention to heavily frequented routes, traffic nodes, as well as sites of large shippers from industry, logistics and mail-order trade. The basis for the selection was the expected traffic volumes, results of previous inspections, and experience from day-to-day control work.
The Mainz outpost participated on 17 September in the heavy-vehicle action day
of the Hessian police and supported on 18 September the Saarland police as part of the cross-border working group “Freisener Gespräche”.
Results of the control actions
In total, the officers conducted 1,587 traffic controls in September. In 1,312 cases BALM checked compliance with cabotage regulations. There were 32 notices of non-compliance with a total of 62 violations. In 450 additional controls, the focus was on enforcing the prohibition of the regular weekly rest period in the vehicle. Here, the inspectors recorded 50 violations.
In addition, BALM conducted 94 checks
across legal domains concerning technical defects in vehicles. In these, the specialists identified 24 violations. In the course of all priority actions, the authority collected security deposits totaling €109,863.01, taking into account all jurisdiction checks during the priority controls.
No representative results
It should be noted that the results of the priority controls are not representative and therefore do not allow robust conclusions about the overall situation in road freight transport. According to its own statements, the authority intends to continue nationwide control actions with the same priorities in
