DHL Express Germany and the sanitary-technology manufacturer Geberit have recently begun using a new form of load securing in their collaboration. The so-called 'Reusable Pallet Wraps', reusable films, are used in the transport of pallet shipments to avoid plastic waste.
Protection and sustainability in one
According to DHL Express, the reusable films are used within the network to secure consolidated shipments. They replace conventional single-use
films and help to significantly reduce material consumption. At the same time, they protect the cargo from damage and weather exposure. Geberit uses the solution for transports from its own distribution center in Pfullendorf, near Lake Constance, to the DHL station in Stuttgart. From there, the shipments are forwarded via the international Express network.
Longstanding collaboration as a basis
“Sustainable innovations and trusted collaboration are
decisive success factors in our business,” says Mustafa Tonguç, CEO of DHL Express Germany.
He points to the long-standing partnership with Geberit, which has existed for more than 20 years. This has repeatedly yielded new projects, including now the introduction of reusable wraps, which had previously been extensively tested on Europe’s roads.
Geberit also emphasizes the benefits of the new solution.
“Through this novel packaging
solution, our sanitary products can be transported unharmed and more resource-efficiently,” explains Michael Stehle, Head of Transport Management at Geberit.
Outlook for broader use
The reusable films have previously been piloted on European transport routes. According to DHL Express, they are to be deployed in the future at additional customers as well. This aims at broader application of the circular economy in its own logistics
