DHL Supply Chain will further expand its capacity in the medical and healthcare sector with the acquisition of SDS Rx. The company will take over specialized transports in healthcare and supply, among other things, pharmacies for care facilities, specialty and radiopharmaceutical pharmacies, as well as health networks. Forecasts indicate that the sector will grow by eleven percent annually by 2030. Specialized pharmaceuticals already account for around 50 percent of total spending on prescription medications in the USA today. Between 2018 and 2022, the number of patients served by specialty pharmacies has accordingly risen by twelve percent. This growing demand for specialized pharma and healthcare solutions opens DHL up to numerous opportunities to strategically deploy its own logistics network,
expertise, and the commitment to the highest operational quality. With this acquisition we are expanding our capacities in medical and healthcare logistics, opening up a new customer segment in healthcare, and strengthening our position as a reliable partner for building robust and interconnected supply chains in the health sector.
Time-sensitive deliveries and the last mile
With the acquisition, the aim is to expand healthcare logistics under the umbrella of DHL Health Logistics and at the same time strengthen the position as a provider of integrated, time-critical solutions along the supply chain in the medical and healthcare sectors, it says.
SDS Rx handles specialized healthcare deliveries from more than 200 locations across the United States and is set to complement DHL's healthcare transport network with important last-mile services.
With the acquisition, DHL also expands its offering
