The logistics service provider aims to generate more green electricity by 2030 than it consumes itself and is massively expanding its solar capacities. At the Reckenfeld site, 7,000 modules are creating new energy potential. In the future, energy storage systems, heat pumps, and charging infrastructure for electric trucks will also be integrated. The goal: to generate more energy than is consumed.

The logistics service provider Fiege has significantly expanded the existing photovoltaic system at its Greven-Reckenfeld site in North Rhine-Westphalia. An additional 20,000 square meters of roof space have been fitted with approximately 4,500 more solar modules. In total, the installation now comprises about 7,000 modules across a total area of 28,000 square meters. The new total capacity is around 3,000 kilowatt-peaks.

Electricity Production and Usage

The expanded system can generate up to 2.4 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually. About 20 percent of the generated energy is used

directly at the Fiege logistics center, with the rest fed into the public power grid. The annual electricity yield corresponds to the average consumption of around 700 households.

Energy Ecosystem and Planned Storage Solutions

Fiege's goal at the site is to establish its own energy ecosystem. In the next step, the company plans to install its first electricity storage systems. These are intended to reduce peak loads on the grid and increase self-consumption. In the long term, Fiege aims to become more independent from the electricity

market and price fluctuations. Local companies are also to be included as potential consumers of the produced green electricity.

Expanded Infrastructure for Logistics Site

Looking forward, the establishment of high-performance charging stations for electric trucks and heating systems with heat pump technology are planned. Both systems are to be powered by the locally generated electricity.
