Gebrüder Weiss takes over during the pre-Christmas period the supply of 21 Smyths Toys stores in southern Germany and Austria. According to the companies, the peak operation begins eight weeks before the holiday at Smyths Toys' automated logistics center in Wallersdorf near Straubing. From 2026, the supply radius expands to 26 markets, reaching as far as the Dresden area and Chemnitz.
Straubing hub and short distances
The logistics center in Wallersdorf lies about 25 kilometers from the Straubing site, where Gebrüder Weiss operates its
own logistics terminal. According to the company, this site serves as the largest traffic hub for the logistics provider in eastern Bavaria and as the base of operations for seasonal store deliveries.
In November and December, from Straubing, daily up to 20 fully loaded trucks depart to the markets of Smyths Toys. In the peak season, according to Gebrüder Weiss, around 380 vehicles are deployed monthly, which is about twice as many as outside the season.

in urban locations require precise deployment planning.
"We have to plan exactly which vehicle goes to which store and when. Some branches are located in pedestrian zones and may only be accessed at certain times. Some are not reachable by large trucks at all. In those cases we deploy smaller vehicles," explains Thomas Peklo, Branch Manager Straubing at Gebrüder Weiss.
Additional storage capacity near the retailer
The close proximity of the sites helps ensure product availability.
"The proximity to Gebrüder Weiss in Straubing is
a major advantage for us, especially during the peak season. If our logistics center is full, we can simply rely on the nearby warehouse of Gebrüder Weiss. This enables us to ensure that all toys arrive on time in our stores," explains Robin Kühn, Site Manager of Smyths Toys in Wallersdorf.
Early preparation for peak volumes
Planning and execution of the seasonal transports have already been completed long before the holiday, the company states. The goal is timely deliveries to all stores during the
