DHL has begun its preparations for the 2025 Christmas season and expects in the coming weeks a particularly high volume of parcels. In particular, in November and December the company expects a notable rise in parcel shipments.
Staffing drive for high parcel volumes
To reliably manage the increasing volumes, DHL has hired around 10,000 additional temporary workers. They support the more than 150,000 employees in sorting centers and in delivery. According to the company, the temporary workers are
paid according to collective wage scales, just like the company's own employees. Nikola Hagleitner, Board member for the German mail and parcel division of DHL Group, emphasizes:
“Our business customers and private customers can rely on us. We are pleased to contribute to a successful holiday season.”
Expanded vehicle fleet and delivery tours
In addition, the company has leased 11,000 vehicles to secure logistics in the pre-Christmas period. On peak days, around 14,800 parcel delivery tours are planned
– about 5,000 more than on a normal day. According to the company, DHL supplements the offering with flexible evening tours and direct trips to Packstations. These measures are intended to ensure that even with highly fluctuating parcel volumes all deliveries arrive on time.
Shipping deadlines at a glance
For national DHL Express shipments, DHL recommends dispatching them no later than December 22, 2025. For international shipments, the submission deadlines depend on the destination country. Therefore DHL recommends
sending parcels early to ensure timely delivery.
Planning and coordination with business customers
Hagleitner points out that fluctuations, especially due to actions such as Black Friday and Cyber Week, place high demands on planning and control. According to the company, DHL is in close contact with business customers to coordinate shipment volumes as effectively as possible.
“We are aware that the pre-Christmas period is particularly challenging for our business customers and for us as a logistics partner,” explains
