ID Logistics has implemented a new generation of security scanners at its employee-intensive e-commerce site near Hanover. The internationally active contract logistics provider is thus, according to its own statements, the first logistics provider worldwide to use the "QPS Walk 2000" outside of airport operations. The aim is to speed up security checks, minimize goods loss and increase the satisfaction of employees and customers, the company says.

Pilot project at the e-commerce site

The walk-through scanner from the manufacturer Rohde & Schwarz, whose test phase has been running since June 2025 at the employee-intensive fulfillment center near Hanover, is thus the first model of the latest generation designed for the industrial logistics environment. After the completion of the pilot phase, another one of these devices is to be deployed at the also employee-intensive e-commerce site of ID

Logistics in Diemelstadt.

Technology and how it works

According to the description, the "QPS Walk 2000" operates with millimeter-wave technology that also penetrates clothing. It scans the entire body in 360 degrees. Unlike conventional security systems, the scanner does not require stopping or standing still. Employees pass through it at normal walking speed, without having to remove clothing. The detection of metallic and nonmetallic objects is achieved using artificial intelligence and is displayed in real time on a gender-neutral avatar.

The manufacturer Rohde & Schwarz emphasizes that the technology enables higher efficiency in security checks. In case of an alarm, security personnel can selectively inspect the displayed area rather than the entire body.

Faster processes, lower losses

According to the company, the scanner significantly reduces waiting times during shift changes. At the heavily frequented entrances and exits

of the fulfillment center, it speeds up throughput. At the same time, potential goods losses are reduced substantially, as unauthorized items and takeaways are detected early.

"The deployment of the walk-through scanner enables us to serve a noticeably larger number of employees in a shorter time with minimal inconvenience," says Sebastian Kissel, Director of Revision & Administration at ID Logistics Germany. Employees do not have to stop or remove clothing, which further simplifies the process.

Also, Robin Otto, CEO of ID Logistics Germany, sees in the technology an important step toward safeguarding high-value goods: "With this innovation we can also increase customer satisfaction by reducing potential shrinkage to nearly zero."

Relevance for the industry

The introduction of scanner technology, along with automation and digitization, increasingly shapes personnel and access security in logistics. For sites with many employees

and high-value goods, especially in e-commerce, the solution is intended to noticeably accelerate processes. Moreover, according to ID Logistics, aspects such as employee protection and auditability are gaining importance.

Also for other logistics service providers, the test run at ID Logistics could be informative. If the system proves effective in ongoing operation, further logistics service providers plan to deploy similar technologies at heavily frequented sites to improve their security processes.
