DHL Express Finland has, according to its own statements, opened a new gateway at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport on 3 September 2025. With an investment volume of around €100 million, this is the company's largest single investment in Finland. The building is located in the Aviapolis area and has direct access to the airport's apron, which enables shorter loading and unloading times for aircraft.
Technical capacities and equipment
The facility comprises around 16,000 square
meters of gross floor area, thereby doubling DHL Express's existing operational capacity at the site. An automated sorting system processes up to 6,500 shipments per hour. In addition, there are 90 direct loading bays that enable the handover from conveyor systems to the delivery vehicles. All loading points are equipped with electrical connections for electric vehicles.
Sustainability and Safety
The gateway is designed to be CO2-neutral, according to the company. The energy
supply is based on geothermal heat and solar power. The concept is complemented by building automation, energy-efficient materials, modern handling technology, and LED lighting. For air cargo handling, X-ray scanning systems are used. Additionally, the facility has been certified to the TAPA A security standard.

Importance for transport
The gateway is intended for handling international, European, national, and local shipments. It covers both time-sensitive and less urgent transports that are moved by air or road transport. According to DHL Express, the first deliveries from the new facility are expected to start in October 2025
