On 6 October 2025, State Secretary Dr. Claudia Elif Stutz signed a multilateral Memorandum of Understanding on the sidelines of a bilateral meeting in Ottawa, Canada. The Federal Republic of Germany is participating, thus as the first country to participate in a Canadian initiative aimed at further advancing the decarbonisation of shipping.
Global Partnerships
“For
Germany, international cooperation in the decarbonisation of seafaring shipping is of paramount importance. Therefore, we support the adoption of globally binding measures at the International Maritime Organization as well as strong global partnerships to achieve real progress as quickly as possible toward a sustainable and climate-friendly maritime sector,” said State Secretary Dr. Claudia Elif Stutz.
According to the information, the signatory states reaffirm their joint intention to support international green shipping corridors between Eastern Canada (including Halifax, Montreal) and important ports in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. There, in the long term, climate-neutral technologies are to be deployed, it says.
