Mars continues its electrification strategy in road freight transport. According to the company, the European fleet will be expanded by six new eActros 600 from Mercedes-Benz. The vehicles will be deployed on routes in Germany and the Netherlands and complement the already ongoing transports with electric trucks. According to the company, Mars electrifies more than 760,000 kilometers of driving distance per year and saves around 1,860 tons of CO2e per year.
Cooperation with Einride as technology partner
Since January 2024, Mars has been
working with the Swedish freight technology company Einride. This partnership includes the deployment of two eActros 300s, which regularly operate between Mars' animal feed factory in Verden and the warehouse in Minden. The route is around 90 kilometers per direction. According to Mars, this shuttle traffic reduces annual CO2 emissions by about 400 tons.
With the newly deployed eActros 600, the partners expand the operational radius of their electric transports. The vehicles supply retail customers and serve connections between Mars sites in Viersen
in North Rhine-Westphalia, Veghel in the Netherlands, and Minden. For energy supply, Mars uses the charging stations erected at the Minden storage site last year.
Expansion of electric logistics up to 2030
By the end of 2025, according to the company, there will already be 25 electric trucks in European transport for Mars on the road. By 2030 the company plans, together with its logistics partners, to bring a fleet of around 300 electric trucks into circulation. With this, Mars aims to reduce
its annual CO2 emissions in European transport by around 20,000 tons. This corresponds to around ten percent of current emissions in the logistics sector.
