On August 1, 2025, eight young people began their training at the Port of Kiel. According to a statement from the Seehafen Kiel, they were traditionally welcomed at the Schwedenkai. Subsequently, the trainees received their first insights into the different port areas and future fields of work during a boat tour with the company-owned motor barge "MS Sprott".
Training in technical and commercial professions
According to the company, the new training positions are distributed across several specializations. Two women and six men are starting their careers in the areas
of port logistics, industrial mechanics, electronics with a focus on energy and building technology, and office management. The majority of the new trainees are starting in the technical sector.
Jörg Demuth, Operations Manager of the Port of Kiel and Managing Director of Seehafen Kiel Stevedoring GmbH, said: "We are pleased to welcome eight new colleagues – more than half of whom are starting in the technical sector. This is a positive signal for the future of the port. We wish all trainees a successful start with us."
Continuous training

The Port of Kiel currently trains an average of 38 trainees in different training years according to their own information. The number of applications for training positions has recently continued to rise. Those responsible see this as an indication of the ongoing attractiveness of the port as a training location.
Moritz Lufft, Head of HR at the Port of Kiel, explained in the statement: "The fact that many young people choose the Port of Kiel shows that the port is attractive as a place of
training as well as a training company – also in competition with other industries."
Training environment with additional offers
In addition to the technical content, the company points to supplementary offers for trainees. According to the statement, the port operator offers activities in the field of water sports, joint events, and discounts on leisure activities.
