The Straubing-Sand port is laying the groundwork for climate-friendly logistics and for more freight transport by rail. Last Tuesday Ulrich Lange, MdB, Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Transport, and representatives from politics and business officially put the new terminal for intermodal transport at the Straubing-Sand port into operation taken.
The operator of the new terminal is Contargo CombiTrac Straubing-Sand GmbH, a joint venture of Contargo and the SFI GmbH. Jürgen Albersmann, managing director of Contargo GmbH & Co. KG, explained the operating concept:
„In the new terminal for intermodal transport, we combine the long-standing experience and expertise of Contargo and Schmid Transport und Spedition GmbH as well-coordinated partners in intermodal transport. This is the basis for a reliable, flexible and at the same time climate-friendly transport solution: up to ten trains per week, 1,000 TEU storage capacity, state-of-the-art handling technology, and up to 20 new jobs. The terminal significantly increases the attractiveness of the port. Companies in the region will in the future benefit from a powerful alternative in
freight transport, while the site becomes even more attractive to industrial companies.”
