Dansk Cater is a Danish company that delivers temperature-sensitive products nationwide to restaurants, schools, and universities with a fleet of over 300 vehicles. As part of its sustainability strategy, the company aims to gradually switch to battery electric vehicles (BEVs).
For this purpose, new Scania regional electric trucks with modernized and electromobility-adapted Frigoblock EK cooling machines were introduced in March 2025.
Emission-free City Deliveries
On selected inner-city and regional routes in and
around Copenhagen, silent and emission-free deliveries are to be enabled day and night. According to the information, the EK machines are specifically adapted to the energy, safety, and technical requirements of Scania's latest electric truck platform.
For this, Thermo King worked closely with the vehicle manufacturer and the local dealer Im. Stiholt A/S. The cooling machines have been upgraded to reduce power consumption and noise levels and, according to the information, have
OEM validation for seamless compatibility with the truck's electrical system.
The EK machines are intended to ensure the same cooling performance as the previously used diesel-powered cooling machines. Beneficial for delivery operations in inner cities is the underfloor configuration, which is intended to help reduce noise pollution in surrounding residential areas.
"Our priority was to reduce emissions and noise without compromising reliability or cooling performance, thus maintaining the quality of the transported
goods," said Kim Christiansen, Transport Manager at Dansk Cater.

According to Sergio Blas Medina, product manager for electrification of large trucks at Thermo King, the partnership with Scania and Dansk Cater demonstrates how fully electric refrigerated transportation can be successfully implemented on the road and in real-world operations.
