Berlin Recycling GmbH operates one of the largest disposal networks in the capital. According to the company, the fleet includes around 180 trucks and 35 other fleet vehicles. With approximately three million kilometers driven annually, over 200,000 containers deployed, and around 500 employees, the company is one of the key players in the Berlin disposal and recycling market. For the tire coverage of the truck fleet, Berlin Recycling relies on the premium tires of the Bridgestone Duravis R002 series.
Technical Equipment and Application Areas
The specially used Nanopro-Tech tread compound reduces energy loss inside the tire, lowers rolling resistance, and thus helps to
noticeably optimize fuel consumption, according to Bridgestone. This is supported by the high-silica compound, which is intended not only to increase wet grip but also to reduce operating temperature – for a longer service life in daily use. An additional special mixing process ensures particularly uniform wear, which in turn improves the economy and tire utilization over the entire lifecycle.
Sustainability through Retreading
Furthermore, a central criterion in the tire selection was said to be the ability to be retreaded. The robust carcasses are designed for urban use. Through retreading with Bandag technology, an average of up to 57 liters of crude oil
and 14 kilograms of steel can be saved per tire. Berlin Recycling sees this as a contribution to resource conservation and cost reduction.
“We are just beginning to make the total costs visible down to the smallest detail, which allows us to plan better and more sustainably for the future and thus reduce costs,” explains Manuel Butze. “With Bridgestone Fleet Care, we gain deep insights and analyses that enable us to make better decisions and keep the fleet and costs under control.”
Digital Tire and Fleet Management
Since September 2023, Berlin Recycling has been using Bridgestone's PayGo model as part of the Fleet
and Tire Management Solution Bridgestone Fleet Care. This combines premium tires with telematics solutions from Webfleet. The goal is to precisely monitor and optimize the operation and maintenance of the vehicles. According to the company, the system enables transparent cost control, increases safety, and improves resource utilization.
Use of Alternative Drives
To implement its sustainability strategy, Berlin Recycling uses alternative drives in addition to its tire partnership. The fleet includes, among other things, fully electric garbage collection vehicles and more than 20 trucks powered by HVO 100 biodiesel. Additionally, intelligent route planning is used to combine efficiency and climate protection in urban logistics.(av)
