The sporting goods manufacturer Puma SE implemented the transport management system (TMS) WinSped from LIS Logistische Informationssysteme GmbH at its headquarters in Herzogenaurach in February 2025. The aim of the introduction was to automate freight invoice auditing to relieve internal resources and to increase transparency in the commercial processing. The decision for the LIS solution followed a market analysis and took into account functional as well as technical requirements.
Puma employs around 22,000 employees worldwide and achieved revenue of 8.8 billion euros in the fiscal year 2024. The global distribution network covers more than 120 countries, which places high demands on efficiency and scalability in logistical operations.
High shipping volumes create substantial effort in invoice verification
In particular, in invoice verification, the high shipping
volume led to substantial effort: eight to ten consolidated invoices from freight forwarders are received per week, in which around 600 shipments are billed. These invoices must be manually checked based on individual freight rates and additional costs – for example, for delivery notification, interim storage, or second deliveries.
With the introduction of WinSped, this process is now carried out in a system-supported manner. The freight terms submitted at the beginning of each year, broken down by destination country and postal code, are stored in the system. Incoming invoices are automatically reconciled with these reference data. The system detects deviations and marks them for further clarification. The digitization of invoice verification reduces sources of manual errors, accelerates processing times, and enables structured traceability in
case of inquiries with service providers.
Puma Central Europe launches WinSped
WinSped is currently deployed primarily in Puma Central Europe's wholesale distribution. Here, the largest shipment volume occurs. In addition, another freight forwarder in the retail segment is already connected to the system, responsible for supplying Puma stores in Europe. In the medium term, the company plans to integrate additional freight forwarders as well as additional functionalities such as the shipment tracking module. The goal is to progressively expand WinSped into a cross-department platform for transport processing and control.
The introduction of the system was accompanied by a project team consisting of two fixed contacts from LIS. On the Puma side, Marco Amling, Wholesale Distribution Central Europe, was responsible for the implementation. The project
progression was described by both sides as cooperative, solution-oriented and professional. According to user reports, the software's distinctive features are the stability of the system, the clear user interface, and easy integration into existing workflows. Training of additional employees to use the system is already planned.
