Under the motto "Make your fleet green!", Allianz Zukunft Reifen (AZuR) and vehicle manufacturer Krone - a member of the alliance - invite you to the 2nd Retreading Summit in Werlte on September 16 and 17, 2025. The industry meeting aims to bring together experts from logistics, municipalities, industry, and retreading to discuss current challenges and perspectives in the tire circular economy.
The two-day program in Werlte includes expert lectures, panel discussions, and a factory tour at Krone
Trailer, one of Europe's leading manufacturers of commercial vehicles.
EU Waste Shipment Regulation changes used tire market
The event takes place against the backdrop of the new EU Waste Shipment Regulation (2024/1157), which severely restricts the export of used tires to non-OECD countries from May 2027. For the industry, this means that a significantly higher volume of used tires will remain in the European market—with direct effects on disposal capacities and recycling processes. Modern thermolytic technologies and retreading
thus gain strategic importance.
Tire network AZuR for sustainable tire management
AZuR is a cross-industry network promoting sustainable tire management. It brings together over 60 partners from industry, trade, waste management, research, and logistics. The aim is to efficiently use the material and economic potential of used tires, reduce environmental impact, and strengthen retreading.
What the EU Waste Shipment Regulation means for tire businesses
From May 2027, the new EU Waste Shipment Regulation (2024/1157) severely restricts the export
of used tires to non-OECD countries. For businesses with tire services, this means:
- More used tires domestically: Export markets such as India or Morocco are no longer available—the volume in the European market increases.
- Increasing recycling pressure: Retreading and recycling become more important—new opportunities for specialized businesses.
- Changed market conditions: Prices and availability of casings and recyclates may shift.
- Stricter export regulations: Exports to OECD countries will also be subject to reporting and documentation requirements in the future.
