The Swedish workwear manufacturer Blåkläder is focusing on sustainability through the long lifespan of its products along with accompanying measures to extend life cycles. The company announced this in June during a press event at its headquarters in Svenljunga, Sweden.
At the forefront of achieving its sustainability goals for the manufacturer is the issue of quality, as Anders Carlsson, Managing Director of Blåkläder, explained. For
this reason, the company does not want to venture into recycling its products at this time.
"With the methods currently available, there is always a loss of material quality. We definitely want to avoid that for the sake of our customers," said Carlsson.
Therefore, Blåkläder is currently focusing on measures that further extend the lifespan of its in-house products. The company already offers a lifetime
warranty on seams, provided the pants, jackets, shirts, and shoes are used normally. If something should break on the products, customers in some European countries have recently been given the option to have their clothing repaired.
Repair instead of discard
In Sweden, Finland, and Austria, repair stations have been set up at some Blåkläder dealers for testing purposes. There, for example, tears and holes can
be patched using a hot adhesive technique. This technique is expected to make the repair last longer than with other methods. Buttons can also be sewn on or zippers replaced at the repair stations.
If the test runs are promising, Blåkläder plans to expand its network of repair shops. Read more about Blåkläder's sustainability strategy in the LOGISTIK HEUTE issue 7-8/2025, which will be published
