The cleaning product manufacturer Werner & Mertz, known for the "Frosch" brand, has launched a low-emission shuttle service between Mainz and Worms in collaboration with long-time logistics partner TST. According to a recent report by TST, the truck, a battery-powered electric truck from Scania with a total train weight of 44 tons, connects the plant at Werner & Mertz's headquarters in Mainz with TST's warehouse location in Worms. Three trips per day are handled quietly and environmentally friendly with the first e-truck deployed on the 67-kilometer route.
"The use
of alternative drives in logistics is another building block to complement our holistic sustainable approach and simultaneously contributes to continuous improvement within our environmental and energy management," said Yannic von Raesfeld, Head of Sustainability Management at Werner & Mertz.
At the end of March, TST launched a new charging station for electric trucks in Worms under the new brand name PamSun, where the electric truck for Werner & Mertz is also charged. The facility, equipped with superchargers and large battery storage, is mainly powered by self-produced solar power generated
from PV systems on the roofs of TST logistics centers.
"We rely on partners who approach the implementation of holistic sustainability with a similarly high level of ambition as we do for our product groups. TST's systemic approach fits perfectly with our company philosophy," said Werner & Mertz owner Reinhard Schneider.
TST Managing Director Marcel Bicking: "Our goal is to support our customers in achieving their climate goals. We are proud to be able to transport the products of our long-standing customer Werner & Mertz in an environmentally friendly
way from now on."
The goal of the TST Group is to build a nationwide charging network for electric trucks in Germany, which will also enable smaller freight forwarders and business partners to switch to e-mobility under economic conditions as a semi-public charging infrastructure.
Andreas Hardt, Managing Director of Werner & Mertz Service & Logistics, emphasized how important sustainable logistics is in Mainz: "We are now always asking for alternative offers for a battery-electric variant in tenders and are carefully assessing whether this variant is ecologically meaningful while remaining
