DPD Germany continues to invest in expanding its network: A new parcel sorting center is currently being built in Kaiserslautern, Rhineland-Palatinate. The depot in West Palatinate relies on modern technology and high sustainability standards, the parcel shipping expert announced in a press release on May 19. Around 130 employees will be working at the new location in the future.

The heart of the new depot is a modern sorting system that is designed to quietly and reliably sort up

to 5,500 parcels per hour. According to DPD, permanent technical monitoring of the conveyor technology allows for predictive maintenance and increases operational safety.

Following the initial groundbreaking in February 2025, the foundation has now been laid. In the coming weeks, the final technical planning will be coordinated before the trial operation starts at the end of November. The volume of parcels will gradually be increased until the location can handle around 100 tours daily for the Kaiserslautern region in

full operation. The commissioning is planned for the end of this year.

“With our new location in Kaiserslautern, we are not only strengthening our capacities in the region, but also setting benchmarks in terms of energy efficiency and sustainable logistics,” said Uwe Gahr, Coordinator Construction & Engineering at DPD Germany and project manager of the new building.

Both the office wing and the hall areas will be equipped with heating and cooling systems based on heat pumps. Additionally, a

photovoltaic system with a capacity of around 600 kilowatt-peak will be installed – enough energy to cover the annual needs of about 200 households. Furthermore, green roofs will be realized on the administration building and hall as well as 80 charging points for cars, “Sprinter” vans, and trucks.

The general contractor for the construction is Bremer Bau GmbH from Karlsruhe. With the new depot, DPD Germany aims to expand its network to be future-proof and take on ecological responsibility.
