The online giant Amazon plans to introduce same-day delivery to 20 new locations in Europe over the next twelve months, including Augsburg, Metz, and Bergamo. Same-day delivery is free for Prime members on orders above a minimum order value, and available to non-Prime members for an additional fee. This was announced by Rocco Bräuniger, Vice President for Amazon in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the EU expansion countries, at Amazon's innovation event "Delivering the Future," which took place on May 6th and 7th in Dortmund.
"We are now offering same-day
delivery at over 130 locations in Europe, from major capitals like London, Vienna, and Berlin to smaller cities like Erfurt in Germany," said Bräuniger. They are working on further expanding same-day delivery and extending order acceptance times.
According to its own account, Amazon has also introduced innovations for its operational network aimed at bringing products closer to customers and speeding up deliveries. The first city where new "fast delivery zones" were introduced is a logistics location in Madrid. In selected postal code areas around Madrid, according to the online
retailer, customers can order until 6:15 PM and receive the goods the same evening. Amazon uses AI to predict what customers urgently need based on popularity data, determining which products can be selected for the fast delivery zones.
According to Amazon, same-day delivery is made possible by optimizing inventory and operations management systems as well as identifying the most demanded products. "Based on this system, products are stored in a specially designated area, allowing for faster and easier picking and preparation. This area is located near the packaging area,
which accelerates the preparation for subsequent shipping by Amazon's delivery partners," Amazon said.
Amazon intends to introduce this model at a selected location in London later this month, in Munich, Berlin, and Milan by the end of the year, and at more than 15 locations across Europe by the end of 2026.
Everyday items are an important category for fast delivery: In the first quarter of 2025, Amazon delivered over 20 million everyday items by same-day delivery across Europe, an increase of more than 80 percent compared to the
