CargoBeamer has expanded its European intermodal network at the end of September with a new route between Venlo in the Netherlands and Oradea in Romania.

First East-West Connection

With the newly established route, the logistics company aims to strengthen the intermodal axis between Western and Eastern Europe and reduce emissions in freight transport, it says.

As part of a mixed operating concept, the majority of the available slots will be used by

the Romanian transport and logistics company Routier European Transport. The traction will also be provided by them. The remaining capacities are to be made available to the general market.

Per semi-trailer on the Venlo–Oradea route, about 88 percent of emissions would be saved, corresponding to an average reduction of 1,800 kilograms of CO₂ per unit. Boris Timm, COO of CargoBeamer:

“With Venlo – Oradea we are creating a direct bridge between the

Netherlands and Romania. This is an important step to further strengthen West and East Europe together. At the same time, we enable sustainable transport on a particularly long route of around 1,500 km. The new connection between Venlo and Oradea is thus another milestone in the expansion of our European network and supports our entry into Eastern Europe as well as the further growth of the CargoBeamer network.”

Daily Departures

Six round

trips per week are offered with a transit time of 60 hours. The trains depart daily from Sunday to Friday at the Cabooter Terminal in Venlo, the Netherlands, and from Friday to Wednesday at the Intermodal Terminal Oradea. Both craneable and non-craneable trailers, refrigerated and tanker trailers, as well as hazardous goods, containers and swap bodies are transported.
