The ZooRoyal Petcare GmbH is based in Cologne. It distributes pet supplies and pet food through its own online shop, in four brick-and-mortar specialist stores in the Hamburg area, in grocery retail and hardware stores with Rewe, Penny and Toom, and through shop-in-shop systems.
The range includes products from around 300 brands in the areas of dogs, cats, aquarium keeping, small animals, terrarium keeping, birds and ponds—also large aquariums and heavy bags of dog food, fine bird sand or delicate accessories for terrariums, such as
decorations or plants.
Since 2016, Loxxess at the Bor site in the Czech Republic has taken over customer-oriented logistics, shipping and returns. The collaboration has now been extended by several years.
„It is our aim that our products reach our customers and their animal companions quickly and intact. To achieve this, we sought a logistics partner who processes our product diversity with the most modern technologies,“ says Annette Corsten, ZooRoyal’s managing director responsible for E-Commerce, Strategy and Marketing.
AI Is in Use
According to the
information, Loxxess uses IT solutions for the entire goods process from receiving to shipping; for example, packages to end customers are picked in an AI-assisted Pick2Pack process. After that, the packages are volume-reduced and securely sealed for transport by two machines.
The challenge lies in the fact that pet supplies and pet food are often ordered in advance.
„The average package weight is over 20 kilograms, therefore transport security is an important criterion for ZooRoyal. Especially because we pack many delicate items such as aluminium
trays, i.e., bowls of cat food, into the packages, which requires special transport-security standards,“ explains Michael Zeidler, Head of Sales Omni-Channel / E-Commerce at Loxxess.
Cooperation Will Continue
According to the contract logistics provider, all orders coming from Germany, the Czech Republic and Austria placed through ZooRoyal's online shop are processed. The ZooRoyal specialist markets and Rewe markets also order directly from the logistics provider.
In the coming years, Loxxess is to continue supporting ZooRoyal's rising demand and growth plans, according to the cooperation partners.
