The Cologne cargo bike manufacturer Chike has introduced an expansion of its portfolio towards commercial applications with the e-cargo Pro model at the trade fair. The model is based on the successful B2C bike with tilting technology and also relies on strengths such as compact dimensions, agile handling, and high driving stability. However, instead of an open box or platform, it combines a custom-made, robust, and recyclable polyethylene plastic box tailored to the light and powder-coated 7005 aluminum frame. This box is easily accessible due to
a lid that opens widely and conveniently with a gas pressure damper at a loading height of 56 centimeters and is also lockable.
It is suitable for Eurobox formats as well as for Systainers and has a total volume of 320 liters, with about 80 kilos of payload and 200 kilos of total weight. Airline rails in the front area allow for the lashing of the cargo. An additional metal bracing towards the frame ensures more stability. At the back, 2 x 2 boxes (30 x
40 cm), each with a height of 25 cm, fit in, while at the front, two boxes with a height of 35 cm fit side by side.
Tilt technology ensures stability
Thanks to the three-wheeled construction and tilting technology suspension, the bike is stable to maneuver and easy to handle, even when loaded. With only 73 centimeters in width and about 1.95 meters in length, the box model remains absolutely suitable for bike paths and city use. The tilt technology mechanism can be locked by a
button when stationary, ensuring safe unloading.
The drive is provided, as usual, by a powerful, quiet, and robust Shimano EP6 Cargo motor, which is combined with a smooth 5-speed Nexus hub with electronic automatic shifting and low-maintenance Gates belts, resulting in a very comfortable configuration that, thanks to a 618 Wh battery, also offers decent range with pedal assistance. A base version comes for 1,000 euros less with a Shimano E6100 Cargo drive, which is coupled with a 418-Wh battery and the manually shifted 5-speed Nexus
