DHL Express Germany officially started the construction of its new operational site in Cologne-Marsdorf on Monday. At Toyota-Allee 28, production and office spaces of around 5,500 square meters are planned to be developed on an area of more than 20,000 square meters.
Currently, preparatory construction measures for the new building are taking place, it is said. Mustafa Tonguç, CEO of DHL Express Germany:
“We continue to invest consistently in our network in Germany. Through heat pump technology, photovoltaics, and green roofing, we are significantly improving the CO₂ balance for our new site in Cologne.”
The investment volume for the new site in Cologne amounts to a total of 40 million euros. The move and commissioning are currently planned for the end of 2026,
according to the company. The service area will then extend from Pulheim in the north to Dahlem (Eifel) in the south and from Bergneustadt in the east to Aachen in the west.
Space for 78 delivery vehicles simultaneouslyThe new facility will feature three so-called PUD fingers (“Pick-up and Delivery”) with direct loading and unloading capabilities for 78 delivery vehicles simultaneously. In addition, 12 gates will be available for loading and unloading at the hall, it is said. Additionally, a state-of-the-art sorting system will be installed, designed for a shipment volume of 6,000 packages per hour, through which all national and international DHL Express shipments will be processed.
The new building will enhance the capacities of the current site through the use of the
latest technology. Tonguç:
“In shipment processing, we achieve shorter processing time windows and improved processes through the operational innovations. Through the investments, we connect our customer companies in the region even better with our global network.”
Environmentally friendly technologyThe new building will also feature a heat pump, which will be used for heating and cooling the building and will be operated with environmentally friendly refrigerant. Furthermore, the building technology can be operated with up to 350 kW peak through its own photovoltaic system. Additionally, the administrative building will receive a green roof in the form of lawns and shrubs.
The building will also have improved ventilation technology in the administration rooms and height-adjustable airtight and weatherproof cushion dock shelters at the gates. Externally,
the building at the PUD fingers will be equipped with 78 positions for electric vehicles, and there will also be a separate parking lot with 17 electrified parking spaces for additional e-vans at the building that could be charged for the second wave of rounds.
From the end of 2026, the site will also have 50 employee parking spaces, 23 of which will be equipped with e-charging points in the first phase. The new DHL Express station will also meet the security requirements of the Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA) and thus obtain the globally recognized TAPA Class A certification as the highest security level in air transport, it is said.
