E.ON has commissioned six fast-charging columns, each with two charging points, in Papenburg, Lower Saxony, as part of the Deutschlandnetz of the Federal Ministry of Transport (BMV). Twelve electric vehicles can be charged with at least 200 kW and up to 400 kW charging power. Modern electric cars are thus ready for the next leg of the journey in around 20 minutes. The site is located on the parking lot of the Möbel ALBERS furniture store, at Deverweg 18 in Papenburg, near the German–Dutch border. It lies conveniently close to the B70, an important north–south connection in the Emsland.
The good accessibility makes the site ideal for charging stops for tourists and for local residents. In the walking vicinity, besides the furniture store with publicly accessible restrooms, there
are also numerous everyday facilities. Among them supermarkets, drugstores and gastronomic offerings. In addition, the partners plan three more fast-charging locations at the retailer's branches in Meppen, Stralsund and Greifswald.
„With the new fast-charging location in Papenburg, we strengthen the charging infrastructure exactly where people live, work and are on the move. This is another important building block in the Deutschlandnetz, with which we will nationwide create 9,000 ultra-fast charging points – for comfortable and reliable charging in the city, in the countryside and on the highway", explained Patrick Schnieder, Federal Minister of Transport.

in the background. The Deutschlandnetz is working to make electric mobility even more everyday-ready.
Modern setup with design roofs, photovoltaic system and user guidance
Ludolf von Maltzan, Germany Business Manager at E.ON Drive Infrastructure, notes that at the new Deutschlandnetz site in Papenburg three design roofs will be deployed, combining functional and design elements.
"They not only provide protection from weather conditions but also serve as an information system: An integrated digital display in the design roof informs about free charging spots as well as the current price per kilowatt-hour for ad-hoc charging," says Maltzan.
As at all locations of the provider, EV drivers in Papenburg charge 100 percent of their electricity from renewable energy sources. To support sustainable operation, each of the three roofs has its own
photovoltaic system with nine kWp nominal capacity per roof. The generated energy is used directly for the charging operation on site. Charging processes can be started and paid for with common charging cards and charging apps, including the E.ON Drive Comfort App, or via the credit card terminal at the charging station. The site in Northwest Germany is implemented in the so-called L-Setup of the Deutschlandnetz and thus offers a total of 12 charging points with parking space detection. The accessible design includes two extra-wide parking spaces. For commercial vehicles – such as electric vans or electric cars with trailers – an extra-long charging space (3 × 7 meters) is available. For additional comfort, some charging spaces are designed as drive-through solutions, so that no maneuvering is necessary.
