The goal of the project Shift2Zero, co-financed by the European Commission, is to develop solutions for the decarbonization of urban transport, specifically through the use of e-vehicles and the adaptation of urban logistics models. According to its own information, Gruber Logistics plays a central role in this alongside other partners from a total of ten countries, particularly in the pilot area of Bologna.
Together with the city of Bologna, which is also a project partner, as well as partners such as the ITL – Institute for Transport and
Logistics, IVECO, FIT Consulting, Alkè Electric Vehicles, Brembo, and Cold Car, the logistics company is testing new concepts for emission-free delivery in urban areas.
The project, funded with a budget of 12 million euros, will run until 2028. Marcello Corazzola, Managing Director of Gruber Logistics:
“Cities and their residents face an increasingly urgent challenge on a global scale, to reduce emissions, improve air quality, and ensure the health of citizens. At the same time, supply must be maintained.”
From his perspective, sustainable urban logistics can only be realized
through the interplay of the public and private sectors, and this is exactly where Shift2Zero comes in. Marco Chiffi, Head of the Bologna branch of Gruber Logistics:
“Gruber Logistics has long been active in goods distribution in the Bologna area. As part of the project, prototypes of electric vehicles and a new logistics model for urban areas are to be tested—with the aim of later trying them out in other European cities as well.”
In addition to the Italian partners, industry and logistics players such as DHL Express,
DPD, Diakinisis, and Michelin are also involved in Shift2Zero. The project is further supported by technical partners and public institutions, including Eurecat, the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT), the TØI – Institute of Transport Economics, Bax Innovation, ALICE, the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH), Applus IDIADA, the Łukasiewicz Automotive Industry Institute, Brussels Mobility, Paxster, as well as the cities of Wrocław, Thessaloniki, and Bergen. Andrea Condotta, Director of Public Affairs, Innovation & Sustainability at Gruber Logistics:
