The Hessian Ministry for Economic Affairs, Energy, Transport, Housing and Rural Areas has announced a new funding program for charging infrastructure in heavy-duty road transport. The initiative “Heavy Duty Charging” is intended to support the expansion of charging options for electric commercial vehicles and thus advance electromobility in commercial and municipal use.
Funding scope
Funding will cover charging infrastructure projects for heavy
vehicles in the N3 and M3 classes as well as for special vehicles. According to the ministry, this includes electric trucks, buses in public transport, coaches, municipal and corporate vehicles as well as vehicles in agriculture and forestry and the construction industry. Electric vehicles for fire departments, emergency services and civil protection are also included.
The funding covers both stationary and mobile
charging points. It does not matter whether the charging points are publicly accessible or not.
Eligibility and funding amounts
Eligible applicants are legal entities under public and private law with registered office or place of business in Hesse. According to the ministry, up to €300,000 can be approved per project. The grants amount to between 20 and 40 percent, depending on the
size of the company.
Term and deadlines
The funding period begins on 1 November 2025 and ends on 31 October 2027. Applications must be submitted no later than 15 October 2025. Projects completed by February 2026 will be given preferential consideration.
