The logistics service provider Movianto, specializing in pharma and healthcare, has significantly expanded its temperature-controlled storage capacities at the Neunkirchen site. Since May 2025, a total of 8,000 pallet spaces have been available in the cooling area between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius. Previously, the capacity was 7,200 spaces. This keeps the site as one of the largest cold logistics hubs for pharmaceutical products in Germany. The expansion was carried out during ongoing operations in compliance with all GDP requirements for the storage of medicines.

"We were able to expand the largest pharmaceutical refrigerator of a logistics service provider in Germany by another 800 pallet spaces," says Dennis Spamer, Managing Director of Movianto for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. "And this during ongoing operations while complying with all GDP regulations for pharmaceutical products."

The additional storage capacity was realized without physically enlarging the existing hall. Instead, Movianto replaced conventional high-bay

racks with modern push-back rack systems. These allow for more efficient space utilization as pallets can be stored on inclined roller tracks and automatically moved into picking position by gravity.

Push-back racks with up to seven levels

In Neunkirchen, the push-back racks were installed with up to seven levels one above the other and up to ten units next to each other. By eliminating intermediate aisles, the space utilization in the respective cooling area was increased by approximately 50 percent.

The investment sum for the new storage technology amounted to around 500,000 euros. The actual refurbishment took four months, with a large part occurring over the turn of the year. Including planning, the overall project duration was nine months. In addition to the rack system, the cooling technology and fire protection in the area were brought up to the latest technological standards.
