The Daimler Truck AG has received a significant large order from BwFuhrparkService GmbH, the mobility service provider of the German Armed Forces. As part of a public tender, Daimler Truck is to deliver a medium three-digit number of off-road Mercedes-Benz Arocs 6x6. The vehicles are to be fully handed over by May 2026 at the latest.
The order is part of comprehensive measures to increase Germany's military readiness. Against the backdrop of a worsening security policy environment and the announced NATO rearmament
plans, the federal government apparently also plans to expand the logistical capabilities of the German Armed Forces.
According to Federal Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, up to 60,000 additional soldiers may be required in the future. At the upcoming NATO summit at the end of June in The Hague, new targets for defense capability are to be adopted. Discussion includes a significant increase in defense spending to up to five percent of the gross domestic product.
Logistics vehicle with all-wheel drive, ten tons
payload, and water wading capability
With the Mercedes-Benz Arocs 6x6, the German Armed Forces will receive a robust, off-road logistics vehicle with all-wheel drive, ten tons payload, and high water wading capability. The steel-sprung truck with camouflage paint and special military equipment is designed for a variety of transport tasks even under the most adverse conditions. The model is powered by the proven OM-470 engine with 335 kW (455 hp), coupled with an automated PowerShift-3 transmission. The vehicles meet the Euro VI
emission standard.
The Arocs is manufactured in the German-French production network with components from Kassel, Gaggenau, Mannheim, Wörth, and Molsheim. The company Sonntag Fahrzeugbau from the Sauerland supplies the 15-foot interchangeable platform body, which allows fast material handling in the field and on rail and ship.
With the order, Daimler Truck not only strengthens its position in the European defense business but also supports the implementation of the national defense strategy. The company refers to previous deliveries to NATO partners like Lithuania
