At the summit on the campaign "E-Trucks.NRW" of the state-owned NRW.Energy4Climate in Düsseldorf, 21 companies today, October 2, signed a declaration of intent to purchase more than 1,600 zero-emission vehicles by 2045 and to gradually convert their fleets accordingly. Also five trade, transport and logistics associations were among the signatories of the declaration.
Mona Neubaur, Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Protection of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, said: "Less noise, fewer emissions, more future. Electric trucks make our streets quieter and the air cleaner – people can feel it directly on their doorstep. At the same time they are a strong signal that climate protection and economic success go hand in
hand. Operating costs are often lower, especially when logistics companies themselves generate green electricity and the vehicles are currently exempt from tolls. More and more companies are taking advantage of these opportunities and are converting their fleets – good for the climate, good for the businesses and good for all of us in NRW."
"Electric trucks will significantly contribute to revolutionizing the transport and logistics sector," said Dr. Katharina Schubert, Managing Director of NRW.Energy4Climate. "Since January, as part of the E-Trucks.NRW campaign, we have informed over 400 companies about how they can already start transitioning their fleets. Today's summit marks a milestone for the campaign and is also a kickoff for the
market ramp-up. The companies present today see numerous, including economic, advantages in electrification. They are positioning themselves for the future and leading by example."
Electric trucks with a central role
Horst Kottmeyer, Chairman of the Association for Transport Economics and Logistics of North Rhine-Westphalia e.V., made clear: "The North Rhine-Westphalia transport and logistics industry commits to the goal of emission-free road freight transport. The electric truck plays a central role in this. We are ready to continuously invest in the relevant technologies and operate fleets with CO2- and greenhouse gas-neutral energy carriers. This necessarily requires reliable political, infrastructural and energetic framework conditions such as planning certainty and investment security, as well as
investment incentives and affordable green electricity."
He adds, so Kottmeyer continues, "as an entrepreneur and with the colleagues in the VVWL NRW e.V., that the state of NRW, following HyTrucks.NRW, is focusing on the topic of E-Trucks with this initiative. The support of the state of NRW and the state-owned company for energy and climate protection is valuable."
