At nine o'clock this Tuesday, the European packaging trade fair FACHPACK opened its doors in Nuremberg. Until September 25, on-site everything revolves around the lead theme "Transition in Packaging" and the current strong currents affecting the European packaging industry, as well as central future topics: high expectations regarding sustainability, new packaging regulations, digital transformation and artificial intelligence. Here FACHPACK, according to the organizer NürnbergMesse, positions itself as a guide and offers exchange and orientation.
“The packaging industry is in motion and faces major challenges,” says Phuong Anh Do, Director FACHPACK at NürnbergMesse. “At FACHPACK we are not only showcasing exciting product innovations, but also discussing concrete answers to the most pressing questions. The packaging industry is full of engagement, solution orientation and future thinking. This impulse power makes it a strong, resilient and future-proof part of the economy. For three days of the trade show, trade visitors can now experience this innovative power live,” Do emphasizes.
At the stands of the 1,387 exhibitors, in the extensive lecture program, the special shows and theme pavilions as well as the awards, the lead theme is reflected. Approximately 38,000 visitors from the consumer and industrial goods industries are expected. 48 percent of the exhibitors come from abroad. Companies from Austria, Switzerland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Belgium, Greece, the Czech Republic, France and Turkey are particularly well represented.
From
packaging materials to logistics
The trade fair is again divided into two central areas. About 59 percent of exhibitors belong to the packaging sector, i.e., packaging products, packaging materials and packaging aids. 41 percent cover the packaging technology sector, i.e., packaging machines, labeling technology and automation. In addition, topics such as packaging printing and finishing as well as intralogistics are also represented at FACHPACK – underscoring the event’s holistic orientation.
The FACHPACK, according to its own statements, acts as a catalyst for the industry. This is evident not only in the extensive product exhibition but also in the lecture program of the PACKBOX forums (Hall 4), INNOVATIONBOX (Hall 7), SOLPACK 6.0 (Hall 3) as well as in the SPEAKERS’ CORNER (Hall 3). All forums address current industry topics.
The FACHPACK 2025 premiere is celebrated by the pavilion "Converting meets Packaging", fully booked with seven exhibitors, in Hall 7, which FACHPACK has put together in cooperation with M2N Media, publisher of the trade media PRO Flexconvert and PRO Flextronics. The platform focuses on the close connection between the converting industry and the packaging industry. The aim is to promote communication between converters, packaging machine manufacturers and packaging manufacturers and to identify potentials for improved collaboration.
Alternative packaging solutions
For the second time, FACHPACK 2025 features the pavilion "Alternative Packaging Solution". Here, alternative examples to common materials
are presented and a view of what could be possible in the future is enabled. In the fully booked pavilion in Hall 3, 15 companies are exhibiting and show, among other things, grass- and leaf-paper products, compostable film bags, cushioning material from grain husks and much more. The SOLPACK 6.0 forum is also part of this pavilion. On all three days of the fair, visitors can expect a diverse program with about 34 engaging talks, including topics such as reusable packaging, packaging solutions from alternative materials, AI, as well as recyclates and origin. Of course, the popular pavilion "Labels & more" in Hall 7 should not be missing at FACHPACK 2025.
Start-ups and first-time exhibitors
If you are visiting FACHPACK in search of fresh, unconventional ideas and products to solve packaging problems, you will again find them this year among the start-ups in the packaging industry in Hall 3. Here visitors can expect, on the one hand, the funded BMWK joint stand "Young Innovators" for young companies. On the other hand, the "Newcomer Pavilion" provides FACHPACK first-time exhibitors or international newcomers in the industry with a platform to present themselves and their innovative products or services to the trade audience.
For the second time, the networking event WOMEN4PACKAGING for women in the packaging industry will start on the first day of the show (Tue, 23
Sep, 12:00, NCC Mitte, Brussels Hall). It offers industry female professionals an opportunity to network on site, inspire each other, and discuss current topics and trends in the packaging industry. Participants can look forward to exchanging with Steffanie Rainer of Reo, Sabine Kästner of Lavera, Simone Mosca of Mosca, Julia Knobloch of Werner & Mertz, Julia Botos of the Carton Group as well as Vanessa Büning and Jasmin Duensing from Tchibo.
Students meet companies
The STUDENT DAY on the third trade day (25 September) then brings together companies and packaging talent. At the invitation of FACHPACK and the German Packaging Institute (dvi), numerous students from the German-speaking region meet with professionals from packaging companies and brand manufacturers – including Tchibo, Smurfit Westrock, Herma, Henkel, Etimex, Lindt.
Packaging awards presented
On 23 September it will again be "Curtain up and stage lights on!" for the total of 37 winners of the largest European performance fair around packaging, the German Packaging Award. Over 200 submissions from 15 countries were received in advance and were to be reviewed and evaluated in person. The German Packaging Award is awarded by the German Packaging Institute (dvi) and will be presented in ten categories from 16:30 in NCC Mitte, Hall Munich. As premium partner, FACHPACK again awards the special prize for young talents. It recognizes the best packaging concepts from pupils,
