At the airport of the megacity Hong Kong, there has been a fatal airplane crash. A Boeing 747, used by the Turkish airline ACT as a freighter, veered off the runway at night and slid beyond the runway into the sea. Images circulating on social media showed the aircraft, half-submerged in the water, with its tail torn off.
According to reports,
the jumbo jet, crewed by four, had previously rammed a vehicle on the airport apron, which was also hurled into the sea by the force of the collision. The two security officers, who the airport said were patrolling nearby but not on the tarmac, were killed. The crew aboard the freighter were said to have been rescued unharmed.

The accident occurred according to official reports around 3:50 a.m. local time (9:50 p.m. CEST). The aircraft had reportedly come from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and, according to media reports, carried no cargo on board. The airport stressed that the weather conditions on site were suitable for landing, as several media outlets reported. The case is now being investigated
by the aviation accident authority.
The impact on passenger traffic at Hong Kong Airport — a major international hub — apparently had no major effects from the incident on the northern runway: the airport's website initially showed no notable delays or cancellations.
