With a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony, the company IPS – Industrial Piping Service started the construction of its new logistics and production building in Burghausen on 26 September. The key component is a fully automated, robot-assisted small-parts warehouse. Concept development, planning and construction of the building as well as the warehouse planning are in the hands of Hinterschwepfinger, according to a statement from the

Burghausen planning and construction company on the same day.

The manufacturer’s AutoStore storage system can automatically store and retrieve up to 10,260 small-parts boxes — on a footprint of only 215 square meters. "A conventional warehouse would require four times as much space," said Josef Hinterschwepfinger at the ceremony. This saves IPS valuable space and provides room for further growth.

“With the new

building, we are not only creating additional capacity, but also optimizing our processes, because warehousing and production will be more tightly integrated in the future,” added IPS managing director Hans-Jörg Behensky. “The work will be considerably more pleasant and ergonomic for our employees in the future.”

The new building covers an area of around 1,000 square meters. In addition to the small-parts warehouse,

it will house a pallet warehouse, goods receipt and dispatch, production, and around ten office workstations. For heating, a biomass boiler from a neighboring administrative building will be used. The roof area will be greened and equipped with a PV system. The self-generated electricity will be used for the building itself and for charging stations for electric cars and trucks in the parking
