Contract logistics service provider DHL Supply Chain has opened a new logistics facility in Halle an der Saale. It is the third site in the region, with which the division intends to further strengthen its presence in the Leipzig/Halle metropolitan area.
Serving diverse industries
The site is strategically integrated into the DHL Campus Leipzig/Halle and, according to the company, is already serving its first customers. Overall, the facility offers a storage area of 34,000 square meters and up to 55,000 pallet storage positions.
The aim is to meet the growing requirements of customers from diverse industries.
27 loading docks
The logistics center comprises three halls, each with 10,500 square meters of space, and has 27 loading docks. The site was constructed to DGNB Gold standards and is equipped with photovoltaic installations as well as energy-efficient LED lighting.
Currently, more than 450 employees are employed there; a further 100 jobs are expected to be created, according to the company, once the expansion building is fully utilized.
“The
proximity to Leipzig Airport (LEJ) enables late cut-off times (10:30 p.m.) for worldwide delivery the following day. Our offering ranges from storage and order picking – including hazardous goods and batteries – to value-added services and complex automated solutions,” says Aiste Slabokaite Heid, Business Unit Director North-East at DHL Supply Chain Germany & Alps.
The new logistics center also supports the growth of customers already represented at the DHL Campus.
Multimodal connectivity
As a site advantage, the logistics provider cites its favorable location
with multimodal connectivity to the national DHL Parcel and Express network, the existing rail and road networks, and to the Leipzig/Halle freight airport, where DHL Express operates its world's largest hub for global air freight shipments.
“With the construction of the second logistics center in Halle an der Saale, we have expanded our range of services at the DHL Campus Leipzig/Halle and can thus accelerate sustainable growth in the technology sector and in other industries,” says Katrin Hölter, CEO DHL Supply Chain Germany
