The Fiege Group will begin in September with the construction of its new logistics center in Hamminkeln. The property is expected to offer just under 55,000 square meters of logistics space for customers from various industries, according to the family-owned company from the Westphalian town of Greven in North Rhine-Westphalia. Due to its immediate proximity to the A3 motorway, the new site is well connected for transport and fits seamlessly into the already existing Fiege logistics network on the Lower Rhine with locations in Emmerich and Bocholt.
At the same time, as part of the construction measures, adjacent to the overall plot of just under 95,000 square meters, a new park-and-ride parking lot will be built on Isselburger Street. Bernd Romanski, Mayor of the town of
Hamminkeln:
“I am pleased that Fiege, a family-owned company with more than 150 years of history, has decided to expand its site network here in Hamminkeln. The establishment of Fiege is a significant impulse for our town. By creating new jobs and thanks to the sustainable construction of the logistics center, Fiege makes on the one hand a valuable contribution to the economic development of Hamminkeln and on the other hand to the energy transition in our town. We look forward to a successful collaboration and warmly welcome Fiege.”
Focus on Sustainability
In planning and development of the logistics center, the logistics company states that it places particular emphasis on the topic of sustainability. The five-section and multi-tenant hall will thus have mineral wool insulation and
energy-efficient LED lighting.
For heating, sustainable heat pumps are to be provided. The energy for this will partly be generated by a photovoltaic system that will cover the entire roof and provide a total capacity of 6,500 kilowatt-peak, according to Fiege. Thoralf Schuster, who leads the Real Estate division at Fiege together with Kai Alfermann and Nikolaus von Blomberg as Managing Directors:
“Using green electricity and producing it ourselves with the help of photovoltaics is a central pillar of our sustainability strategy. We pursue ambitious expansion targets so that we can turn our logistics centers into small, sustainable solar power plants and by 2030 generate more renewable energy than we consume ourselves.”
In addition, automated building automation systems and smart monitoring tools would in the future
help optimize the energy consumption of the new logistics center. For the building, the Greven-based family company aims for the EG-40 standard as well as a Gold certification (Version 2023) from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). Schuster:
“Fiege pursues the clear goal of becoming a greenhouse-gas-neutral company. The construction of sustainable and energy-efficient logistics properties makes a decisive contribution to this. Our special thanks go to the town of Hamminkeln and Mayor Bernd Romanski, who give us the opportunity to realize this construction project and to expand our site network on the Lower Rhine. We have been serving major clients from various industries at our sites in Bocholt and Emmerich for many years and are pleased that we can continue to grow in the region.”
