The logistics company Gebrüder Weiss is celebrating an anniversary. It has been 25 years since the company founded its first branch in Croatia.
„The economic development of the country since EU membership and its integration into the Schengen and euro areas were decisive catalysts for our business,“ said Wolfram Senger-Weiss, chairman of the management board of Gebrüder Weiss.
Three locations
Since its market entry in 2000, the logistics company has continuously invested in infrastructure, digitalization, and the expansion of services. At three locations the logistics provider is currently represented: In Zagreb, Rijeka and Split the
company offers logistics services as well as road, air and sea freight solutions.
In 2019 the headquarters in Zagreb was established. More recently the logistics terminal there was expanded and the logistics space increased to more than 20,000 square meters. It says this is a response to the rising customer demand in international and national goods traffic.
Another transshipment warehouse planned
According to the information, the Home Delivery business developed particularly dynamically as a result of the e-commerce boom. The demand for end-customer deliveries remains at a high level, especially in the tourist areas along
the Croatian Adriatic coast.
For this reason another transshipment warehouse near Split (Dalmatia) is planned.
„Croatia offers not only a strategically excellent location for goods traffic between the EU and the Western Balkans, but also an attractive environment for investments. Access to the major Adriatic ports Rijeka, Koper and Trieste, as well as the good transport infrastructure, make Croatia a high-performance logistics location with great development potential for multimodal transport,“ emphasizes Thomas Schauer, Regional Director for Central and Southeast Europe at Gebrüder Weiss.
Market position to be strengthened
According to Gebrüder Weiss, Croatia is to
be used even more in the future as a transshipment point for onward transport to neighboring countries. The logistics company is also driving its sustainability strategy forward in Croatia – through photovoltaic installations and heat pumps as well as by expanding e-mobility.
Currently five electric transporters are in operation in Zagreb; in addition two electric cargo tricycles are operating on the islands of Rab and Lošinj.
They intend to continue strengthening their position on the Croatian market – with investments in digital services, automated processes and the training of skilled professionals, according to the information.
