The international logistics service provider Gebrüder Weiss has completed its bicycle campaign “GWcycles” 2025 with a new record result. According to the company, around 800 people worldwide participated in the campaign and covered a total of 1,047,998 kilometers between April and October. Last year it was 768,800 kilometers with 600 participants.

Goal: Waste reduction through mileage

The campaign this year was under the motto “Cycling for the

Seas.” Gebrüder Weiss had announced that for every 100,000 kilometers ridden they would remove one ton of plastic waste from rivers and coastal regions in Southeast Asia. Through the total distance of over one million kilometers, up to ten tons of waste can be removed by the end of the year, according to the company.

The implementation of the environmental measure is carried out in cooperation with

the Berlin-based environmental technology company CleanHub. The company builds local waste management systems in heavily polluted regions of Asia to reduce pollution of the seas.

“Who pedals, changes something – for himself and the environment. That is what our GWcycles cycling campaign stands for,” says Frank Haas, Head of Marketing and Communications at Gebrüder Weiss. “And it shows how much power is in community. We are proud

of our bike community, which, fortunately, grows year by year and engages in environmental protection across borders.”

International participation

According to Gebrüder Weiss, cycling enthusiasts from various countries participated in the initiative. To provide extra motivation, the company created a mileage leaderboard and awarded prizes for milestone targets. The top of this year’s campaign was Kristian Buljan from Germany, who rode a total of 19,022 kilometers. (av)
