According to company figures, group revenues rose by 16.3 percent to 884.5 million euros compared to 760.3 million euros in the previous year's period. The operating profit (EBIT) increased by 34.8 percent to 79.4 million euros. The EBIT margin reached 9.0 percent compared to 7.7 percent in the previous year. The profit after taxes and shares of other shareholders was 19.1 million euros, thus exceeding last year's figure of 13.2 million euros.
Development in the Subgroup Port Logistics
The publicly listed subgroup Port Logistics achieved a revenue of 865.7 million euros in the first six months of the year, an increase of 16.6 percent. The EBIT increased by
40.1 percent to 72.4 million euros. The EBIT margin rose to 8.4 percent from 7.0 percent in the previous year's period. The profit after taxes and shares of other shareholders amounted to 15.3 million euros, and earnings per share stood at 0.21 euros.
Container Handling with Significant Growth
The volumes of feeder traffic were able to increase significantly compared to the previous year's period. In addition to the Finnish traffic, container handling with Poland as well as within Germany also recorded a strong increase. Meanwhile, the cargo volumes from Estonia declined. The feeder quota for waterside handling was 19.6 percent (previous year: 18.7 percent).
The international container terminals recorded a strong increase in handling volume of 28.7 percent to 165 thousand TEU. This is mainly due
to the resumption of waterside handling at the Container Terminal Odessa (CTO) in the third quarter of 2024, in addition to the volume growth at HHLA PLT Italy. Also, waterside handling volumes at the multifunctional terminal HHLA TK Estonia increased slightly.
Growth in the Intermodal Segment
Rail transport increased by 20.2 percent to 863 thousand TEU compared to the previous year. The strong volume increase was mainly driven by traffic with the North German and Adriatic seaports as well as DACH traffic.
Revenue in the segment rose by 22.2 percent to 400.5 million euros, growing more than the transport volume. Reasons included price adjustments and a higher share of rail transport. The EBIT increased by 23.1 percent to 48.2 million euros, with the EBIT margin at
12.0 percent. Construction sites on important transport routes had a negative impact.
Stable Development in the Real Estate Sector
The properties in the Hamburg Speicherstadt and the Fish Market area achieved revenues of 23.4 million euros in the reporting period, an increase of 1.8 percent. EBIT fell by 3.4 percent to 6.7 million euros. According to HHLA, the increase in rental income in the Speicherstadt could not fully offset increased expenses and depreciation.
