Knorr-Bremse and Cojali pool their resources and launch a new service named ESB Reman for the repair of electronic control units (ECUs) for commercial vehicles.
The repair service reflects the vision of a holistic aftermarket ecosystem that gets commercial vehicles back on the road quickly after repairs, it says.
“With ESB Reman we are now launching a service that has been specifically developed for ECUs of commercial vehicles. ESB Reman offers direct service and fast repairs instead of procuring new parts,” said Alexander Wagner, Vice President Global Aftermarket/Truck Services,

Four repair centers
Additionally, the service is intended to help reduce maintenance costs, minimize downtime, and extend the lifespan of key vehicle components. Currently the service has four repair centers located in Spain, France, Italy and the Czech Republic.
“The solution is both economical and environmentally friendly. Thanks to our repair hub system, repairs are carried out as locally as possible in accordance with the same standards and processes. The repairs are performed by trained and experienced personnel, and the range of ECU types
covered is continuously expanded,” explains Wagner.
According to Venancio Alberca, CEO of Cojali, Cojali has been offering repairs of electronic components for more than ten years. Now the ECU Simulation Bench would be used, a Jaltest ESB simulation device, which should enable diagnosis, fault understanding and testing of electronic control units for commercial vehicles.
Repair Process
It is possible to overhaul over 1,100 ECU references for various vehicle systems: engine, brakes, suspension, transmission, exhaust aftertreatment, instrument cluster and others.
Upon receipt, the ECU will undergo a visual inspection and
extended diagnostics. This should allow errors to be identified precisely. Damaged components would then be replaced with new parts and all functions checked prior to shipment — to ensure performance comparable to a new product, it says.
On the one hand, ESB Reman provides a cost-effective alternative to purchasing new parts; on the other hand, the service actively contributes to reducing electronic waste. Both companies, according to the information, want to reaffirm their commitment to advancing maintenance in the commercial vehicle sector and offer solutions that extend the lifespan
