The Pfenning Group from the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region is expanding its fleet by 20 gas-powered vehicles from Iveco. According to the company, these are 16 tractor units of the Iveco S-Way CNG AS440S50T/FP and four Iveco S-Way CNG 3-axle chassis of the type AS260S50Y/FS-CM. With the deployment of the vehicles, the logistics service provider aims to reduce emissions in road freight transport and increase the share of alternative drives in the fleet.
Technical Equipment and Range
The new tractor units are equipped with a 500-hp Cursor-13 engine compliant with the Euro VI-E standard. The technically permissible gross vehicle weight is 20 tons. On both sides of the vehicle, there are four gas tanks
with a total gravimetric capacity of 190 kilograms installed. According to the manufacturer, this enables a range of up to 800 kilometers.
The four swap-body chassis are fully air-suspended 6x2 vehicles with a wheelbase of 4,800 millimeters and a gross weight of 26 tons. The cab, engine and gas tanks correspond to those of the tractor units.
New Bio-CNG Filling Station in Nerdlen
The vehicles will in the future be refueled with Bio-CNG from a newly opened filling station, which was built in collaboration with OG Clean Fuels at the Nerdlen site. The use of biomethane enables, according to Pfenning Logistics, an almost CO2-neutral operation of the vehicles and supports the decarbonization of
heavy-duty road transport.
Driver Comfort and Factory Equipment
All new Iveco vehicles were factory-equipped to meet the requirements of the drivers. They include, among other things, a fully automatic climate control, a comfort seat with lumbar support, as well as a three-stage heating and cooling function. Other features include a leather steering wheel, a premium refrigerator, a storage box, a swiveling passenger seat, a sun visor, LED headlights with cornering and bending light, and a shiny & glossy front-grill design.
“With the new Iveco S-Way CNG tractor units and chassis, as well as the commissioning of the Bio-CNG filling station established with our partner OG Clean Fuels, we are taking another important step
toward sustainable logistics. For us, this means combining ecological, economic and social responsibility and offering our business partners viable solutions for the future,” says Michael Koch, Fleet Manager at Pfenning Logistics. “Bio-CNG is, for us, a central building block to reduce emissions, use resources efficiently and actively drive the decarbonization of heavy-duty road transport in the Greater Eifel region.”
Goal: Combining Efficiency and Responsibility
According to the company, Pfenning Logistics sees the use of Bio-CNG as an important step to combine ecological, economic and social responsibility. The company aims to actively accelerate the decarbonization of heavy-duty road transport in the Greater Eifel region and at the same time increase energy efficiency in its
