The correct tire pressure determines safety, efficiency, and reliability in freight transport. Against this backdrop, SAF Holland has introduced the SAF Tire Pilot I.Q. – a digital tire pressure monitoring and inflation system for trailers that not only meets new legal requirements but also aims to reduce the risk of breakdowns and save fuel.
Since July 2024, the EU requires under ECE-R-141 that new vehicles
be equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system. The SAF Tire Pilot I.Q. responds to this regulation with an automated solution that not only detects pressure loss but also autonomously corrects it. If the tire pressure drops below the specified value, the system automatically refills it. In the event of a larger pressure loss, it additionally informs the driver via a dashboard warning message.
"The
display in the driver's cab warns the driver as soon as the target pressure in the system drops by 0.5 bar. If there is a pressure loss below this value, the system compensates for it independently without the driver having to take action," explains Benjamin Irmscher, Product Line Manager Axles & Suspensions at SAF Holland.
For transport companies, this means: fewer failures due to gradual
air loss, less consequential damage to tires, fewer workshop visits – and greater operational reliability of the vehicles. In combination with app access and Wi-Fi interface, the system status can also be evaluated in real-time and used for fleet management.
Would you like me to add the analysis on the economic effects for transport companies now? I would focus on fuel savings and tire wear.
