The DHL Group's contract logistics division is intensifying its collaboration with the AI company HappyRobot. The partnership is intended to drive more agent-based systems to automate standardized communication processes.

The autonomous, AI-based agents are already deployed by DHL in several regions in operational areas – for example, in scheduling appointments, recalling drivers, or coordinating time-critical warehouse processes. In doing so, the logistics company pursues the group-wide strategy of systematically unlocking efficiency potentials through digital technologies.

Autonomous handling of telephone, e-mail and messenger communications

The HappyRobot platform enables fully autonomous handling of telephone, e-mail and messenger communications. The systems can be

integrated into existing IT infrastructures and take on tasks that were previously performed manually. Initial analyses at DHL apparently show a measurable reduction in administrative effort as well as increased responsiveness in communication with customers and partners. According to DHL, the AI agents process annually several hundred thousand e-mails as well as millions of minutes of conversations.

Repetitive tasks are being replaced by automation

According to the company, the new AI agents focus not only on business aspects, but also on personnel-strategic considerations. Repetitive tasks are to be replaced by automation in order to involve qualified personnel more in value-added

tasks. The deployment of AI agents is intended to help increase the attractiveness of jobs and strengthen employee retention.

DHL Supply Chain pursues a structured and strategic approach to the integration of generative and agent-based AI applications. The current pilot applications are based on experience in the areas of data analytics, robotic process automation and self-learning software solutions. According to the company, further fields of application are in preparation.

HappyRobot understands its AI agents as active components within global supply chains. They are meant not only to automate processes but also to contribute to standardization, acceleration and transparency

in operational communication. The startup's vertically integrated platform combines different AI models such as transcription, Large Language Models, or optical character recognition with a deep integration of enterprise systems such as CRMs or Transportation Management Systems. According to the company, they already work with more than 70 corporate customers; besides DHL, also the U.S. logistics and transportation providers Ryder, Schneider and Werner.

In a recently completed financing round, HappyRobot, according to the company, received 44 million U.S. dollars in fresh capital. They intend to use the money to continue expansion plans, further develop the platform, and enlarge the development teams.
