Daimler Truck officially opened the Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicle Center Munich Aschheim last Friday. The new site for trucks, buses and vans is designed for alternative propulsion technologies and the needs of commercial and fleet customers in the Munich metropolitan region, it is said. The location directly on the A99 at the Kirchheim junction near Munich enables an optimal connection to infrastructure such as long-haul and distribution traffic toward the city center.
For the Mercedes-Benz and FUSO brands
On around 44,500 square meters of site area in Aschheim on Klausnerstraße, from now on the sale and service of trucks of the Mercedes-Benz and FUSO brands as well as the service of buses of the Mercedes-Benz and Setra brands and of Mercedes-Benz vans will be offered. Commercial and fleet customers would also receive offers for hire purchase or leasing with service contracts and insurance. Together with CharterWay GmbH, the site offers a mobility concept with rental and financing solutions.
Modern high-voltage and rooftop workstations
On the roughly 3,200 square meter workshop area, high-voltage workstations were also set up to service battery-electric models such as the Mercedes-Benz trucks eActros 600 and eEconic, the FUSO eCanter and the Mercedes-Benz city bus eCitaro.
In total, 25 parking stands for trucks, buses and vans would be available and there is also an expansion option for a further nine spaces, it is said.
At the same time, a highly modern, flexibly adaptable workspace has been created in Aschheim to work on the roofs of vehicles and thus on the truck cab or bus roof.
Along with the new center, there is also a repair and accident service with frame alignment technology, a trailer and semi-trailer body service, a testing site for the
main inspection, exhaust gas testing and other tests, and the parts and accessories trade.
Maintenance and repair of hydrogen vehicles
The Aschheim site also accounts for maintenance and repair of vehicles with hydrogen-based propulsion technologies. The workshop includes a fully equipped gas workstation with gas sensors and a dedicated exhaust system that meets hydrogen requirements, according to the company. The prerequisites for venting hydrogen at a so-called evaluation area in front of the workshop and the basic refueling required after a workshop stay are to be installed by the end of 2025.
The workshop is equipped, among other things, with two roller test benches for brake tests, a tachometer test stand, a department for bodywork, and four ceiling cranes, for example for lifting engines and transmissions.
With a so-called Truck Lift system, a complete truck-trailer combination can also be lifted to ergonomically optimally perform work on wheels and brakes. With two workshop vans, the Aschheim site also participates in the mobile breakdown service in and around Munich.
Photovoltaic system and electric charging points
For the energy
supply of the two-story buildings with a gross floor area of around 3,850 square meters, a photovoltaic system with 754 modules was installed, which, according to the company, can generate around 450 megawatt peak (MWp), more than the site’s energy needs.
And for employee and customer cars there are a total of six charging columns with twelve charging points, for trucks and buses four charging columns with eight charging points and charging capacities up to 400 kilowatts. Volker Hüntrup, Head of Mercedes-Benz Trucks Own Retail, Europe:
“In addition to acquisitions in our European core markets such as Trappes in the western part of Paris, we are continuing to invest in Germany. We celebrated the expansion of our Würzburg site with our customers in May, and we are currently working to expand the commercial vehicle center there in Hamburg.
