The trailer manufacturer Kögel is strengthening its collaboration with the telematics provider Idem Telematics to advance digitalization in the transport and logistics sector. The centerpiece of the cooperation between the two companies is the "Kögel Telematics" system, which provides comprehensive real-time data on vehicle fleets.

“By expanding our partnership with Idem Telematics, we are consistently broadening our digital offerings,” explains Thore Bakker, CSO of Kögel Trailer GmbH. “Our customers benefit from real-time data, higher planning reliability, optimized processes, and noticeable cost savings—true to our motto: Because we care.”

The telematics solution specifically tailored to Kögel trailers documents transport

processes and the current vehicle status. Since June 2021, the system has been serially installed in all trailers and semi-trailers of the manufacturer. This is based on a white-label solution from Idem Telematics.

"Kögel Telematics" collects information on the location, technical condition of the trailers, as well as on routes, cargo, and arrival times. This data can be seamlessly integrated into existing IT architectures through interfaces. This enables seamless monitoring of fleet operations and more precise planning.

A key application area is predictive maintenance: the system is designed to detect irregularities in wear-prone components like the chassis at

an early stage. If necessary, service requests could then be generated automatically to carry out maintenance in a timely manner. This could avoid unexpected breakdowns, reduce downtime, and increase vehicle availability.

Furthermore, Kögel offers the digital tool "Kögel Intelligent Trailer" (KIT), a browser-based solution for document and maintenance management. KIT enables the legally required pre-departure check, the digital transmission of freight documents, and the maintenance of a complete vehicle record. Workshops can input maintenance and repair data via interfaces. The complete documentation positively affects the resale value of the vehicles.

Both partners emphasize that the highest standards of

data quality, system security, and user-friendliness apply to the further development of the systems.

“Kögel and Idem Telematics place the highest demands on the quality and reliability of the hardware and on the availability and security of the data. Together, we are opening up new possibilities for data-driven insights for the transport industry—while simultaneously protecting the entrepreneurial independence of the vehicle operator,” says Jens Zeller, Managing Director of Idem Telematics.

The continuous development of digital services aims not only to meet legal requirements but also to make everyday life in freight forwarding and transport companies simpler, safer, and
