The online retailer Shein and the freight carrier Lufthansa Cargo signed a letter of intent on 19 August 2025. In it, the two partners agree over the next six months to jointly develop concrete measures for the introduction of solutions enabling the use of sustainable aviation fuels.
Proof of Emissions Reductions
Lufthansa Cargo will issue so-called “Proof of Sustainability” certificates for the amounts of sustainable aviation
fuel used. According to the airline, these documents are based on externally verified standards. They are intended to transparently document the emissions reductions achieved compared with the use of conventional kerosene.

Additional Areas of Action
The use of sustainable aviation fuel, fleet-efficiency measures and process quality form the basis of the collaboration, according to the letter of intent.
In addition,
both partners have announced that knowledge transfer and improvements in traceability and the capture of operational and environmental data will be incorporated into their collaboration.
Long-Term Cooperation
According to the company, the signed letter of intent marks the beginning of a long-term collaboration. Shein and Lufthansa Cargo aim to contribute to the gradual transition of international air cargo traffic to renewable and lower-carbon energy sources. (av)
