UTA Edenred fuel cards are among the most widespread cashless payment options for fuel for businesses in Europe. For some time now, with UTA eCharge, light electric vehicles can also be refueled using a charging card at acceptance points equipped with charging stations. Now the service is being expanded to all vehicle classes, including battery electric heavy transport. But it’s not just about paying for electricity. The mobility service provider from Lower Franconia, part of the Edenred Group, takes over with eCharge the planning and implementation of the entire necessary charging infrastructure. The 360° offer for electric truck and van fleets initially applies in Germany.

"So far, UTA customers in the car segment have benefited from the comprehensive charging solution for public charging, charging at the company premises, and at the residences of company car drivers. Now, the full service offer is also available to companies in Germany with electrically operated heavy commercial vehicles,"

reports the fuel card provider from Kleinostheim in its press release.

Currently around 300 stations - also access to Milence

For public charging, UTA customers with heavy electric commercial vehicles have access to around 300 truck-compatible charging stations in Europe, including those of the Milence rapid charging network. The joint venture of Daimler Truck, the Traton Group, and the Volvo Group plans to expand the European charging network for heavy commercial vehicles to 1,700 charging points by 2027. Milence inaugurated the first two charging parks for e-trucks at the end of 2024, and in February 2025 followed the first megawatt

charging station of the Dutch company.

The public truck charging network of UTA Edenred has been used by Mercedes-Benz Trucks customers, a company of Daimler Truck, since April 2025 – with the Mercedes ServiceCard charging card.

Implementation of company-owned infrastructure

The service of UTA Edenred includes the possibility to refuel electric vehicles at the depot, in the parking lot, or even at home. With the UTA eCharge charging card, transport and logistics companies can thus make their vehicles operational again overnight or during loading/idle times, for example, via depot charging on the company’s premises.

Comprehensive solution

In the service for the expansion of the charging infrastructure, everything has been considered. The service offer includes both detailed needs analysis and the planning and implementation of suitable AC or DC charging infrastructure for depot charging. This also includes technical operation, necessary training, charge management, and handling of charging processes.

Furthermore, companies can also monetize their charging infrastructure by making it accessible to third parties for a fee, referred to as "Semi-Public Charging".

Another usage option for companies is to enable the charging of electric vehicles for their employees and customers in the company parking lot – UTA Edenred calls this "Workplace Charging".

Also, the residences of employees are equipped for charging company vehicles: with suitable wall boxes, which also include the necessary processing and reimbursement solutions via UTA Edenred.

Network of specialized partners

The mobility service provider founded over 60 years ago is one of the largest in this field in Europe. In Germany alone, the

cards are accepted at over 13,800 fuel stations – according to the information, a coverage in the country of over 95 percent. Across borders, payment can be made at 87,000 acceptance points in 40 countries.

"UTA Edenred customers purchase conventional and alternative fuels independent of brands, use a continuously growing charging network for electric and hybrid vehicles, and toll solutions for 27 countries in Europe,"

it says on the website. Currently, 925,000 charging points in Europe are listed at individual charging points: including more than 760,000 AC, 83,000 DC, and 81,000 HPC stations with up to 400 kW. The comprehensive service offer also includes various workshop and vehicle cleaning services or roadside assistance services.

With its decades of experience, UTA Edenred has expertise in the field of infrastructure project management and works with corresponding specialized partners to support customers in the precise setup with charging technology. Current partners include, for example, the charging infrastructure project developer GP Joule Connect or the sustainable energy production company VSB Group, a company of the multi-energy group TotalEnergies.

And as software for processing charging processes and charge management, UTA Edenred uses – in all charging variants, from home, through the workplace, to depot charging – the software platform from Spirii. The company was founded in 2019 for the accelerated implementation of e-charging options and has belonged to the French provider of digital payment and mobility services Edenred Group like UTA since 2024. Pierre Jalady, General Manager Edenred Mobility EMEA and CEO of UTA Edenred says:

"It is our

aim to enable our customers with vehicles of all classes to charge in a large public network, on company premises, and also at the residences of company car drivers with the charging solution UTA eCharge."

The logical consequence now is, after the start of eCharge as a 360° solution for the car segment, also to provide a corresponding comprehensive electrification offer for heavy commercial vehicles. "Thus, we are available to all customer groups as a reliable partner for the electrical transformation."

UTA eCard: for sourcing electricity and fuel

With the UTA eCard, customers have not only charging options, but also toll payment processing and more available. Charging options for electric vehicles are already widely available: the public charging network of UTA Edenred alone currently includes around 925,000 charging points in Europe, in addition to charging on company premises or – for company car drivers – also at their residences. Charging processes are activated and handled via the UTA eCard.

But not only that: the eCard also handles cashless payment for fuel refueling in the UTA fuel network and European highway tolls. Additionally, access to further vehicle-related services in the UTA acceptance network such as workshop and breakdown services, cleaning, tire services, and parking bookings is enabled. Through the UTA Edenred Drive App, one can also conveniently search for fuel station brands, types of fuel, services, and detailed information across the entire UTA network. And the UTA eCharge App provides an up-to-date overview of the ever-growing charging network and helps in locating the nearest charging
